Hi Mark,

IMHO any time you can get cooler air to the carbs, the better the car
will run... so the stock setup should be pretty good on your Spit. There
are all kinds of expensive aftermarket parts for more modern cars, in an
effort to pickup the intake air from a cooler source. Another Triumph
innovation? ;-)

If you go back to stock filter arrangement, you might check to see if
K&N has elements to replace your stock ones. It's a lot cheaper to buy a
pair of their elements than a complete filter assembly. Incidently, I
was able to find a pair of K&N's to fit Webers on my car for well under
$100. Might shop around. They're cheaper in the long run, as you clean &
reuse the element basically forever. No financial interest, yada....
