What cool ideas! (pun intended). I am so glad that somebody with the
fabrication
skills to make these things is attacking the problems. I know it is a labor
of love to do these projects as the volume is way too low to actually make a
profit! It MAY make the project break even (hopefully). Tell me more about
the cooling mods. (did my measurements help? I can take more if you need
them. I have to fire up the kerosene heater and survive the carbon monoxide
to get them, but if you need any further info, I can do it.
I did my own part for this recently. I needed to make the proper
cut-out in my transmission tunnel for access to the OD speedo cable attachment.
There were factory metal cover plates to seal the hole. These are now VERY
rare. I guess the people at the scrap yards preserved the transmissions, but
sent the shapeless pressed fibreboard covers to the heap along with the
indestructible metal cover plate.
I obtained one from a friend to examine. I had to give him title to my car and
my first born as collateral. He has only seen ONE in all his years as a TR
mechanic. I had thought about hammering out some new ones. My metal working
skils are not sufficient to do this at all. But I can make molds!
I made some plaster molds of the part and made 2 fiberglass parts. They look
great! I found that 4 thicknesses of woven fiberglass is just the right
thickness
I now have 2 sets of plaster molds to make more! I will offer them up to
the list and see what response I get.
