Sorry, but VB's winter sale offered an remanufactured A-type gearbox for
$700 plus *sore* charge (Freudian slip!). Not the O/D unit itself. Just
the gearbox. Actually, a pretty good deal if you have the O/D unit. If
you try to convert a non-O/D box, you'd spend at least $250 on just the
shorter mainshaft, which you won't be able to find either.
I cleaned the garage (sort of) recently and found last year's VB sale
catalog and it did list the O/D unit at an only mildly outrageous price,
I threw it away in disgust. VB does not now have A-type O/D units at any
price and doesn't know when/if they'll get them again. Their supplier no
longer supplies them, they told me last week.
On the subject of sales, this year I think VB won "best sale". They had
far more TR items than Moss. I'm not on TRF's mailing list, but
understand they had a percent off depending on how much you spent. I
suppose that could be a relatively good deal, depending on what you need
and how much youz willin' to pay for it and how long youz willin' to
wait for it.
Seriously, folks, I followed much of the recend thread about vendors and
I have to say I think the they do a pretty good job overall and I am,
really, I'm not kidding, delighted to have a source for most of the
parts I need! I just wish they'd get some A-type O/D units! Cheap! (That
explains why I'm saying nice things about them!)
