Well everybody,
I tested the resistance of the body to the engine. I got 0.2 ohm before
messing with
anything. I pulled off the DPO-added ground strap and got 0.3 ohms. I
took off the
"original" ground strap and I still got 0.3 ohms I cleaned up the origin=
al
ground strap's
connections and tested the strap itself and got 0.1 ohms. I reconnected
the original
ground strap and got 0.2 ohms from body to engine. I cranked the engine
with just the
original strap in place and got good cranking speed and no hot wires/etc.=
that I could find.
I then reconnected the DPO ground strap and got no change in the overall
resistance
and cranking was fine. Temperature check of the ground straps showed no
warmth,
not even the DPO strap.
It seems that the DPO strap is unnecessary now but I have to crawl under
the car to remove
the engine attachment, so I will leave it in place as-is for now.
Thanks for all the help from many parties.
