The later crank from the TR4 / 4A also requires the scroll to be machined.
I just had it done. Here is a little known tip: when you go to the modern
rear lip seal, the length of the bolts holding the flywheel is critical.
The new bolts currently available (at least in the US) for flywheel
attachment are slightly longer than the original bolts. This extra length
(1/32" I think) is enough to cause interference between these bolts and the
new seal, resulting in an engine that will not turn once the flywheel is
installed. Ask me how I know. Good luck.
