Hi Larry,
I used to own a 1964 2000 saloon, which was a truly wonderful car. In
fact, of all those I've owned, it's the one car I regret selling. I've
been very tempted recently by the thought of a 2000 or 2500 as a tow
car, with the Estate being the ultimate option as an autojumbling hack.
Triumph saloons and estates are always much cheaper over here than the
sporting models. I guess they're a much more common vehicle - supply and
demand really. There's nothing wrong with them, they're reasonably
quick, handle pretty well (for a car of the size anyway!), in general
they're more than capable of sticking with modern traffic conditions.
The only downside (to some people) is that the 2.5 litre models had
fuel injection only until the mid 1970s, then going to carburettors.
Nothing against that setup personally, but I know it scares some people!
I don't know whether export versions were fitted with PI or not.
I'm sure Jonmac will give you more of a definitive answer than this,
but if you can find one over there, I'd say buy it!
        Cheers,
                Bill.
