I have this very same problem, usually though only when it's cold (98% of the
time here in Blighty).  Have you got the little button on the solenoid between
the two main contacts?  My will always start on this if the ignition packs in!

ps, In mine without O/D engaged 3500rpm is about 60mph, but I can't remember if
you lot over there had a different diff, Oh know, I'm sounding like an
anorak!!!! :-)
