I used to work for Armor-All back when they first started out in the
mid-70's. At the time an engineer came and explained to the reps how to
use and some common problems, etc. If used properly, it will not
"shine," or get a sticky residue. This is the correct way. On tires
spray liberally on the surface and spread evenly while removing the
excess - make it all look wet without leaving a lot on. Wait 24 hours,
overnight will do, for it to soak in. Then buff the tires with a
different cloth. On vinyl, use very little. When in doubt use less,
you can always put more on, but excess will not come off. Use just
enough to make the surface look damp. Again, wait overnight and buff.
It can also be use on wood, I've used it on my dash, and chrome and
paint. The thing to remember is less is better and buff it! When we
did demos at dealerships all went well until a detail guy would spray it
on a dash - too much! Took weeks of buffing to get it correct.
Armor-all needs to be absorbed by the surface, therfore use just a
little. The buffing sets the chemicals. The result is a natural
looking surface to which nothing will stick. After proper application,
you can (I have) drive through mud, grass, dirt and it won't stick to
the treated surface of the tire. Moto-cross bikers used to do their
entire bikes so mud wouldn't stick. I do my front license plate - no
bugs.
