Andy,
According to John Thomason (speaking of the Spitfire engines), " The
(MkIV) block, now the same as that of the Toledo engine, incorporated a
counter-bored recess around each bore to accomodate a raised lip on a
new cylinder head gasket, the purpose of which was to improve sealing."
My understanding (as apparantly is yours), is that the blocks are cast
and bored at the factory and no sleeves are installed. The ones in the
catalogs are for the purpose of restoring ruined or oversixwd cylinders.
I assume the TR6 engines are the same.
Regards,
Joe
