Several weeks ago a thread was started about the correct color of carpeting
for TR4's. Art Kelly among others stated that all TR4's had a charcoal grey
colored loop carpeting. One thing that was obvious at the time is that none
of the normal suppliers supply carpeting in this color. They seem to only
offer red, black, blue and tan. As it turns out one member of the list, Bill
Kelly (by the way are you and Art related!!) found a carpet supplier that
apparently has this particular color and style of carpet in stock and already
precut and sewn for the TR series of cars. I contacted Bill Kelly and he
provided me with a name and phone number. The name of the company is
Southeastern Fabrics in Knoxville Tennessee, the guy to talk to is Mark
Walker (his wife has a TR250 with this carpet in it) and the phone # is 800-
332-7893. I called yesterday and talked with Mark about carpeting for my
car. They do stock the carpet as previously discussed and the price for a
complete set sewn to fit a TR4 is $150 plus shipping. I can't attest to the
quality of the fit just yet but that price is pretty much half of what any of
the Big 3 are charging for their Loop carpeting. Bill Kelly can attest to the
color match and in a couple of weeks I'll be able to report back on the fit of
the carpeting. I believe they can also offer carpeting in different colors to
match whatever interior color you might have.
I'd like to thank Bill Kelly for providing me the carpeting information. Not
only did I save $150 or so but I just might end up getting the proper color
of carpeting.
By the way if you should happen to contact Southeastern Fabrics Bill Kelly
wants us to and I quote "Drop my name liberally - maybe he'll cut me a
break if I need another yard to retry this gearbox cover!". Figured I should
pass that along!
