I could really do with some help on a 1972 TR6 rear suspension question.
When I picked up the car a few weeks ago, I wondered why I had 4 brand new
Unipart rear bump stops in amongst the various boxes of bits
(simplistically thinking, if you've got new ones, then you put them on the
car ...). Yea, I was really dumb: the PO would have done so if the old
one's hadn't already departed leaving the threaded bits behind, thus
filling the holes into which the new ones would go, with broken studs flush
with the surface of the boss on the trailing arm.
Is this a common problem? and if so, has anyone got any suggestions for
removal of the threaded bit? I do have some stud extractors, but on really
stuborn remains, they can cause more damage, so I'm a bit reluctant to go
that path in case I damage the threaded bump stop boss. The alternative is
to drill out the old one and re-thread: has anyone found that route to be
successful (and does anyone know the thread spec. and tapping drill size?)
Thanks in advance,
Tony Gordon
