Fellow Listers:
Why does the Bentley manual and most other specs I've read call for
setting the idle timing of a 76 TR6 at 4 degrees ATDC when my car runs so
incredibly well now that i've set it at 12 degrees?
At 4 degrees, the engine stumbles and misses terribly after it warms
up--the subject of several recent postings and hours of lost sleep. I've
tried most of the excellent suggestions from this list, but i got a
massive improvement when i simply changed the timing. The car now
accelerates smoothely, has punch and much better throttle response. is
this discrepancy in timing a function of age (the car's, not mine) or a
cruel joke our sly British cousins are having at our expense? How I wish
I'd just ignored the manual and tried this before ordering the sports
coil, the carb rebuild kits, the new plugs . . . . .
Just out of curiosity, what other sections of the manual should I ignore?
Sorry about the rant and thanks to all who offered suggestions.
