John,
Before doing anything drastic, like removing your transmission for inspection,
make sure the problem isn't hydraulic. After a warm-up, is the tranny hard to
shift into reverse also? If so, you might want to check the travel of the slave
push rod cold and then warm for any differences in travel. There isn't a lot of
travel anyway, so difference may be very slight.
I've had a problem like this, and the solution came by replacing/rebuilding the
slave cylinder. For some reason heat negatively affected its operation.
