This is for the tranny specialists who lurk out there.
I recently attempted an overhaul of my original 73 transmission, in order to
restore syncro. Indeed, there were little brass pieces lying in the bottom of
the gearbox. OD not touched, and works fine.
So now the syncro works well, but otherwise the job was not successful.
When starting out, I can move through the gears smoothly - but in just a few
minutes, shifting into first from a stop becomes almost impossible, while
second gear is increasingly stiff. There is no grinding of gears, just an
incredible stiffness, as if there's an obstruction I must push the stick
through.
I'ts entirely possible I have the spacers wrong in the box, but wouldn't that
make for grinding rather than my situation? Could it be the shifter linkage,
between the stick and the gears....but I didn't mess with that.
