You could try putting masking tape over the cut on the side that blows
out. You might also want to take a punch and remove the set from the
teeth of the sawzall blade- or use a blade with smaller teeth.
I didn't have too much trouble with the jigsaw- where possible, I cut 1/4"
over the line and then "machined" the rest with a drum sander (or disc
sander, depending on profile)... however I was using 1/4 masonite, which
is probably more forgiving than 1/8.
Another thing to try would be to sandwich the masonite between some thin
scrap wood and cut the whole works. A bit wasteful perhaps, but good if
you are cutting matched pieces (no waste side)
