If you complain loud enough and write enough letters, and have balls the
size of 165/80r13's, Sears will give you the store.
Just as an anecdote.
I was a sears hardware employee, and one day, this guy brings in a
drill attachment cylinder honing device (3 wetstone looking things on a
tripod). He slams it down on the counter, and says 'this thing is a piece
of crap." Not, a problem, I'm thinking. I'll just give this guy
another one or his money back for it and toss it in the trash.
Nope. This guy says It made an OVAL shape on his heads, and now the
cylinders won't fit (?), and he wants me to give him $2000 for a new set
of
heads. So of course, I tell guy "let me get you a manager". Well after the
guy started screaming bloody-murder, they took him to cust. service
counter and about 2 hours later, the manager comes walking over with his
head hung low and I asked him, well what happened with the customer? He
says "We cut him a check for $2000.00".
I've had customers waving the instruction booklet to a tool that's 10
years old, with their greasy finger=prints all over it, that has in bold
print "90 day warranty against defects." and
who are unable to tell the difference between a "hand-tool" and a
"power-tool" get their money back. (Yes, I know you use your hands when
you're using your grinder...but it's still a power tool.)
I still buy at Sears. (not because I feel any dedication to the place
that overworked and underpaid me) But, I know power
tools break, and Sears offers (for a few dollars) a "no questions asked
replacement for two years" on the power tool. Every time I buy a power
tool, I get
the "no questions asked replacement" and if wether it's broken or not, I
return it 2 years to the week I bought it and exchange it for a new one.
And when I get the new one, I get a 2 year no questions asked warranty on
it (usually costs around $2 to $10 every 2 years) a lot of money?
Probably, but whenever I feel like it, I can go into the store drop it on
the counter with the receipt (which YOU MUST SAVE) and go "Give me a new
one."
Just my $10 worth.
