Peter,
I doubt that the clutch work you did caused this. I think that the
grinding is caused by the fact that as you shift from 3rd to 4th the
overdrive lock-out switch temporarially de-energizes the overdrive
solenoid and the overdrive is shifting out and in causing the syncros
to get confused. My car does the same thing, BTW, but if I shift very
slowly (giving the overdrive enough time to de energize completely
before shifting into the other gear I get no grinding.
I have been toying with the idea of building in a timing circuit that
wouldkeep the O/D engaged for about 1 second while shifting to avoid
this problem. But then if I shifted slowly I might inadvertently get
the problem back.
Oh well. Fix a problem, create a problem. (some wise person said that)
