Hi, listers
Yesterday, I said I would post a description of what is believed to be tyhe
last remaining Lynx prototype, now at the BMIHT Museum at Gaydon.
WHAT DOES IT LOOK LIKE?
In profile, very like a stretched TR7 but a three door four seater
fastback. The vehicle on show is left hand steering with tan interior and
painted a very bright green. I don't remember this as a production colour.
Instrument panels is very much TR7. Bonnet is heavily louvred.
DESCRIPTION (copied from the card mounted on the screen)
"When Triumph began to design the TR7, they intended to include a fastback
Coupe which was codenamed Lynx. Because the Lynx concept kept changing, it
ran well behind the TR7 which was launched in 1975. This car is thought to
be the last of 18 Lynx prototypes and the only survivor.
The Lynx has a lengthened wheelbase allowing a rear seat to be fitted and
the TR7 panels were restyled to give a different side feature line. It was
fitted with a Rover V8 engine and this particular car has Lucas electronic
fuel injection.
Lynx was seen as the successor to the Stag which was discontinued in 1977.
As the 1970's drew to a close, BL were coming to the conclusion they should
withdraw from the sports car field and the Lynx was shelved - though some
elements re-emerged in the final Triumph sports car project, the
'Broadside' of 1979/1980.
Engine: V8 3528cc 190bhp
Max. Speed 125mph (201km/h)"
