I've used the platinum plugs in my wife's Jetta at the suggestion of her VW
mechanic. There was an initial short lived improvement in performance and
fuel economy, but nowhere near what we were told to expect. After 3 months
I pulled them and replaced them with good ol' NGK's. The car ran fine and
was consistent in the previous factors until I tuned it 6 mos. later.

to use their special plug gap tool which has measuring wires to gap the
plugs rather than the more normal flat gauge or bent wire plug gapper.
