Hi,

Sure, give me a shout. I have not installed an ignitor before, but the
install should be pretty straight forward... I have to point out that my
normal customers take precedence over solving your ignition problem...
sorry - gotta pay the bills, you know.

BTW, if you are killing your battery with the ignition off, there's a
good chance that your wiring is off a bit. Also, the hot coil is a dead
giveaway... if it's hot, there's current going through it. Sounds like
you have wired the coil to an unswitched circuit.

Use your newly acquired digital multimeter to look at the ingition
components when the ignition key is turned off... there should be no
voltage at the coil when the key is off. If you have voltage at the coil
when the key is off, then you need to chase down that issue.

When I installed my Crane system last summer, I had to play around a bit
due to the ballasted ingnition wire (red/white or pink) going to the
coil. I started unwrapping the wiring harness to cut the wire out, but
after thinking about it a bit, I realized that it was _way_ easier to use
one of the switched lugs on the "fuse box" to provide the full 12 volts
that the ignition box needs. I then carefully wrapped the ballasted wire
in electrical tape and wrapped that into the wiring harness and "out of
harms way" so that I can convert back to the points system if I ever get
the urge to do so. Frankly, even though I _could_ go back to points, I
see no reason to now, but I have that option - should I so chose.

As a point of information, I got my car all back together yesterday. I
put the key on for about 30 seconds to get some fuel up to the Webers,
engaged the starter for about 10 sec. kicked the throttle and the engine
sprang to life after sitting for at least 5 months. I didn't even need
the "choke". With the old points system, I would have had to try
starting/restarting at least 5 or 10 times till the car would idle.

The electronic ignition is _waaaaaaaaay better_ than the points.

C ya,
rml
