I still vote for clay. Two local body shops use it for overspray and Meguires tech support specifically recommended it to me. It's safe for use, even on paint, and will not react with metal, if that's an issue. 0000 steel wool or 3M pads are a step up in harshness, but do have their uses on more abused surfaces.
