> Anyone out that has driven both a TR-6 and a Mazda Miata?
I've not driven a Miata, but I know a lot of folk who do own a Miata
and early 1970's British & Italian tackle. I attempt to give voice
to their impressions....
The Miatas are built with typical Japanese competence; i.e. they
are most things to most people. They can make awesome auto-X
cars and do extremely well in SCCA Solo-2 with not a lot of preparation.
It is fair to say that the humble TRs are out of their league here.
With a hardtop, they are even quite pretty (thank you Colin Chapman).
Personally, I prefer my TR6 for all the reasons why everyone else
on this list would prefer to keep their leaking Brit-iron even
though it causes bloodied knuckles on most weekends; soul,
character, sound, simplicity, memories, uniqueness, etc.
Finally, to complete the ultimate heresy, if I was FORCED to buy
a new ragtop (*shudder*), I would probably prefer the Miata over e.g.
the Boxter or BMW Z3 (Caterhams and TVRs are not legal in SoCal). Why?
For the same price as a Boxter/Z3, one could have the Super Miata (a Ford
4.6 litre quad-cammed V8) and brake/suspension work that would absolutely
smoke the German cars. Hell, it would even smoke every BMW-M car
and 911 (except maybe a tubbo). But its no Cobra/Tiger......
