First of all thanks to all who answered my question about the tach cable. I
had forgotten that the list would be closed down for a while so the "real
time" part didn't quite go. But all of you were right. It was just a matter of
pulling hard enough. Although the bolt of the side does need to come out. What
happened was I spied angled surfaces on the "fitting' that looked like they'd
just fit a wrench - and did. That loosened things and out it came. Everything
is now disconnected and the braces are going in. 
By the way, in case anyone is wondering, "YR4A" isn't code for anything.  I
hope I restore the car better than I type.
