I had a system like this for reverse lights... the light got ripped off in
an accident (car ended up in ditch)...  I plan to install a relay and
sensor on the shifter so a backup light comes on automagically.

Read the label carefully, some of these products can't be used on
aluminum.  They are powerful bases (opposide of acids) and will readily
corrode aluminum.  I have a Craftsman framing square that got left on a
concrete floor too long; the lime in the concrete put large (dime sized)
pits in the blade of the square.
