oil filter types

I purchased a Moss oil filter adaptor kit that specifies a Fram PH966 which
is a special order item where I shop. So I bought a Fram PH3600A as it is
full flow, the same size and cheap (fits ford '71 to '94) but there is a
PH16 which is cheaper and would also fit. Problem is I can't tell what it's
specs are. I figure Fram are good but are there better spin on filters?
Anybody know about this sort of thing?
