Over dinner last Friday night Mark Bragg, his dad Jim Bragg, and I decided
to form a club for Triumph owners in our area. This dinner didn't start
until after 11:30 and that may have contributed to the fogginess of our
thinking. The main elements seemed to be Triumphs, Golf, and maybe British
cars in general. Our first act as a club was to decide to drive the
Triumphs out to breakfast Saturday morning and attend the Mini's East
autocross. We did get as far as the autocross without incident.
I had decided to take the Sprite we currently have for sale and the TR-250
to the autocross. Alex, my son, left early in the TR-250 but on my way
home the Sprite quit just before I got home. I walked home and in a flash
of brilliance picked up the gas can. We put about a gallon of gas in the
Sprite and it fired right off and completed the trip. Of course when we
got home the TR was blocking both halves of the garage. No problem, oops,
problem. The TR won't start. Betcha it's the solenoid, or starter, but
we don't have time for that right now because we've got a baseball game
followed by the first golf outing of our Triumph and Golf club. Pushed
the Triumph out of the way then into the garage blocking the Sprite. We
got in three holes before the rains and lighting ran us off the course.
Then last night Mark's left rear wheel parted company with the car and
headed for the river. Jim came to the house about 11:00 and we went to the
basement and grabbed a knockoff and a hammer so we could put Mark's spare
tire on. Drove up the scene and discovered Mark not only lost the wheel
but also the adapter and he now has four lugs and no adapter for his wire
wheel. Went back home and jacked up the TR-250 and borrowed the left rear
wheel (a TR-6 wheel originally) and went back to Mark's TR4. By this time
we had a troupe consisting of me, Jim, Mark, Mark's mother, Mark's
grandfather, Jim's best friend Gary, Gary's wife, and Mark's exgirlfriends
stepfather. Lacking a great setup on the jack they proceeded to pick up
Mark's car while we attached the new wheel. Worked like a charm.
Final score for the weekend (and Monday)
A-H Sprite buried in the garage behind the
TR-250 which won't start and is on three wheels since we took the left rear
off of it and put it on
Mark's TR4 minus one wire wheel plus one TR6 wheel
3 holes of golf
Sure is fun.
