RE:TR6--shifting into reverse

I learned the "twisting the choke knob" trick from this list last week, but
this "lift for reverse" is a new one on me as well.  I don't have 23 years
of ownership (only 14) but neither my "old" '74 TR6 nor my "new" '73 require
this maneuvre(sp?).
