I also find that the car(s) with the nicest "babe" or best "hunk" can do 
well at participant's choice shows. ;-)
Sorry, couldn't resist.
The key is: if you want to win show competition with British cars, you 
gotta go for concours judging. Period. Success Participant's choice is not a 
measurement of just the car.
I echo other sentiments. The best I ever did at a show was when I stood 
by the car all day and answered questions. Folks must have been voting 
for "most talkative" that day.
I also usually vote for light blue cars. The red ones always do seem to win.
