I think that the gearboxes carried numbers beginning with KC-1 with
the Mark 1 and continued through at least KD in the Mark 2 (using both
KC and KD). Mark 3s had KF10001 and beyond.

Diffs began with KC1 (Mark 1), KC50001 (Mark 2) and KC66001 for Mark
     3. Diffs were numbered differently for use with overdrive units...

I'll have to look at my overdrive units to see if there is a number...

I'm pretty sure that only the diff's carried KC and KD numbers, not the
gearboxes.

Here is another example of how the U.S. models are "slighted" in so many
reference works. KF is the series used for the U.S. version of the GT6
Mk.3 in Commission, Engine and Gearbox numbering.

I don't have all my books in front of me, but I don't believe the OD
gearboxes were numbered separately. Exception: GT6 Mk.3 gearboxes with
overdrive supposedly had a different ratio of reverse gear than the non-OD
boxes, but I don't know if that corresponds to the difference between KE
and KF gearboxes.
