Hi,
I don't have any data at hand right now, but there is a guy in Oklahoma
City, OK that sells an Ambro replica body. It'll fit any "big TR" frame
with the standard track width (which is something like 50 inches (plus or
minus a bit).
At any rate, if you want to follow up on that prospect, I can get you a
number and address, I have an information package at home somewhere. On
the other hand, Kit Car magazine or Kit Car Illustrated have run articles
listing manufacturers info in the recent past, so that is a source for
info to.
I think the company name is Antique Automotive Specialists or something
like that.
Now, if you are looking for a Devin, body, good luck! I know they are out
there, but they are getting tough to find. Especially considering that a
number of them have popped up in the last few years as new cars.
Grassroots Motorsports ran an article in the last few months about a guy
in California that built one up and I met a guy at Road America last fall
that built a really beautiful one from a TR3.
As for finding an original Ambro, that might be tough. Bill Ames said he
had made 50 or so and as of last year, he only knew the whereabouts of
three or so of those that he had built. They are out there also, and many
are Triumph powered, but most folks don't know what they are. Look in
Hemmings in the Hi-Po and Race Car section for cars listed as birdcage
Maserattis that are "real cheap" (relatively speaking) and do not have
Maseratti power. That's how Bill found the one that he was racing the
last 5 or 10 years.
Note: if you knew who Bill Ames was, he passed away about 2 months ago.
It's too bad, he was a good guy - easy to talk to at the vintage races.
I'm not sure what happened to his Ambro/TR3 race car (number 57).
Bye,
rml
