This depends upon how extensive a restoration, if any the car has had. I
completely stripped mine, so there is no way you can tell her original
colour without a certificate (I did return her to her original colour
though).
Unless that car has undergone a major restoration and been disassembled and
repainted, under the dash is an excellent place to look for the original
colour. You will also likely find it behind the back seat around the
petrol tank. If you are going to replace the interior there is also the
kick panels, the rear wheel arch upholstry to look under. Another thought
is to remove one of the aluminum sill plates and see whats underneath.
Unless the instrument panel has been recovered, most shops will not respray
under the underside of the scuttle.
