I too agree with Andy...Most reputable brochure dealers can authenticate
brochure dates...but I have yet to see an accurate book for concours
restoration that covers all the TR models ... so beware. The Piggott book is
good for TR 3 series and related derivatives...but...Bill Piggott's book is
loaded with misinformation and photos of non-original cars declaring them to
be original for the TR4 - TR6 cars. I have not and would not recommend this
book to a concours lover of later models. Likewise there are great TR 250/6
books that do a terrible job on Warwicks, Italia's and Tr3's. So as
usual...buyer beware. In Piggott's book even hardware change points are wrong
for the TR6. I have the original tech bulletin files from Standard/Leyland
west coast to verify and have on occasion gotten confirmation info from
"original" owners in the clubs. Contact the tech specialist from VTR for
better info on your model or seek sage help from the local "experts" in the
club you will be showing the car with if you are into local trophy
seeking....unless you are just trying to get "close". In which case...don't
fret the small stuff..make is safe..make it great looking and have fun. Like
Ken Richardson said..."We designed and built them to be driven...not to sit
in some bloody Museum" (VTR National, Washington). Happy Motoring!!
