Common to motorcycles, the oil pump has a scavange pipe that removes all
oil from the sump after circulating through bearings, valve train and so
forth and moves this oil from the sump to an external oil tank.  Principal
advantage said to be to prevent lower end from beating the oil in the sump,
frothing the oil and the like.
