Well, that depends on how one defines "officially exist". I have a spare 
parts catalogue -- original in its grey ring binder with blue printing on 
the cover -- for the "TRIUMPH SPORTS CAR; 20 TR2, 3 & 3 A MODELS", so at 
least at some point Triumph did at least "accept" the 3 A name (the 
spacing is here as it is on that cover)!

Go figure! ;-)
