The inner fenders are spot welded to the scuttle from the floor pans up thhe
scuttle, and at the top, where they flare out to meet the fender there is a
bead weld. They are also spot welded to the front of the floor pans. The
junction between the floor pan, the scuttle and the inner fender is always
rusty, so if you disturb this, you'll probably be patching the floor pans and
scuttle as well. Any replacement should be done with the engine in the car
(or equivalent weight on the frame) and you should test fit the fenders hood
and front apron before welding them in. It might be easier to leave 3/4 of
an inch of the old inner fenders on the scuttle (if the joint isn't rusty,)
and trim the new inner fenders and weld to that flange.
