More to the point, this is a solenoid. It is a cylinder about four 
inches tall and 1-1/4 inches in diameter. There is a rubber cap 
on the top with a wire coming out of it. It is mounted vertically on 
the left side of the overdrive unit.

You will also need a gearbox with the correct mainshaft for an
overdrive, or you 
will need to rebuild your existing gearbox and install an overdrive
mainshaft (that's 
what I did). You will also need an adapter plate to bolt the overdrive
to the gearbox. 
This may or may not come with your used overdrive unit.
