Since you're starting with a Spit, not a GT6, you will find that you'll
have to replace most of the car's running gear with GT6 stuff, so it's
probably not a good idea.

I'd say rebuild the 1500 engine and maybe pep it up a little. In the
end, it will be cheaper and the car will still be kind of original.
I'd also recommend you rebuild it yourself, don't pay some guy to do it.
It isn't that hard, and it'll be far more satisfying. To TOTALLY redo
the engine (boring out, grind crank, new valves and guides, resurface
flywheel, etc.) you're looking at $350 to $400 in machine shop charges,
and figure another $400 for parts (valves, guides, pistons, bearings,
conrod bolts ($$$) lifters, cam....)

But think about it - would you buy a used GT6 engine and just stick it
in the car? No, you'd want to rebuild it, too - and a GT6 engine costs
a LOT more to rebuild than a Spit engine.

That's my suggestion. Good luck!
