If blowing into the tank seems to dislodge some obstruction, I'd really
recommend pulling the tank. Not too hard on the TR3. My bugeye prematurely
ran out of gas a couple of weeks ago. I blew into the tank through the fuel
line, felt some blockage give way, and figured I had many miles of blissful
driving before anything happened again. Paranoia struck, I pulled the tank,
and saw that the sender had been sealed with blue RTV. Inside, the silicone
had turned into these large, soft, sluglike creatures which apparently were
attracted to small orifices. Also, the anti-slug screen had somehow broken
off and was just rattling around in there watching the action.
Maybe sometimes you're better off not knowing what goes on in small
dark places, but if you don't remove whatever is clogging up your system
I bet it'll come back at some real convenient time and place.
