Ummm, you might want to look again yourself!  All the big TR's
I've ever seen (and I own a couple myself) have a rubber (or
braided) hose as part of the clutch hydraulics.  Only the top
part is metal.  There's a junction down at the frame where the
metal line joins to the flexible line.  This flexible line is
used to absorb the flexing that occurs when the engine moves
on its mounts.  All engines that I'm aware of move around at
least a little, so I'd guess that Spitfires use a flexible line
as part of their hydraulic system, too.
