This posting is to all of you who have spent so much time in recent days
griping about The Roadster Factory.
There are many parts vendors in the country and abroad that distribute parts
for LBC's. The fact of the matter is that none of the compare to The
Roadster Factory in any way shape or form.
I have built ten or so cars over the past few years and TRF is always my
first choice for the parts that I need, primarily because the QUALITY of the
parts that I generaly receive from them is first rate. Only twice that I can
recall, I have received parts that were wrong or did not fit. It has been my
experience that TRF's primary concern is the quality of the product which
they deliver. Providing quality parts often means that you have to make
sacrifices in other areas. Personally, if this means that I have to wait six
weeks for a part that fits properly, and not have to worry about whether or
not when the part arrives, I'll have to fight with parts vendors about
whether or not they provided me with the proper part, I'll wait. I may not
like it, I may be in a hurry to get my project finished, but I'll wait for
QUALITY any time.
As far as backorders are concerned, I think that we all have to realize why
backorders happen: Generally the backordered parts are parts of high demand,
and there are not many suppliers for these parts, so the parts may be
backordered to TRF, as well as from TRF.
Secondly, It is a lot less costly to order say 10 pieces than it is to order
1. Unless you want the prices of the parts we all need to sky rocket, we
need to sit back and wait untill there are enough orders pending to offset
the cost of single production or shipping runs of parts from suppliers used
by The Roadster Factory.
I realize that we are all in a hurry for parts when we order them, at least I
know that I am. The summer months are upon us and we are all hungry to
finish up our winter projects and get the cars back on the road where they
belong. Maybe we should have thought about that back in January, before the
crunch was on. Very seldom have I ever had to wait for more than a month or
six weeks for a part to arrive. Instead of placing blame on TRF for not
having the parts you need in stock, try placing some of the blame on
yourselves for being somewhat shortsighted on the parts you need for a
project.
I do not intend to offend anyone with this posting, I do intend to propose
this question: Is there a viable solution to the problem of backorders or
are we all just going to sit around and complain about a company that for all
intensive reasons is the best game in town? I'm sure that the powers that be
at TRF are interested in hearing any suggestion you may have to improve their
turn-around time on orders. I'm sure they don't enjoy their computers being
backlogged with orders that should already be processed and cleared.
Once again, no offence intended,
Ron Wynne
