.......................................................................
In the late '70s, I used 185/70-13 Michelins on 13x6 BWA Sportstar
wheels on my Spit MkII. I had to bang up the front fender lips, and
the front tires did rub on the back of the wheel wells under *extreme*
cornering loads, but the rears were no problem at all. I also shimmed
the front lower A-arms to give 2 degrees negative camber, and fitted a
camber compensator at the rear, with longer than normal links, to help
decamber the rear. The tire wear was flat across the tread, understeer
was eliminated, and boy, did it handle!
I think a 185/60-13 tire would work even better, but it would
still be necessary to fold up the front wheel arch lips. Some day I'll
get my other MkII rebuilt, and give it a try.
