One adage to follow is =E2=80=93 if it=E2=80=99s not =
puking coolant, it=E2=80=99s not overheating.
=20
You should always double check the temp of the engine to the gauge with =
an IR thermometer or other means =E2=80=93 most gauges are off some.
Seems to me I read an article about someone putting a potentiometer or a =
small resistor in line with the temp gauge to make it read correctly.
=20
You might want to do a system flush. Make sure you read the Flush =
bottle directions completely for this.
I used Prestone Flush on my 1988 Mustang recently which stated for HD =
flush run the engine for 3 hours or more which I did by driving a couple =
hundred miles over 3 days.
=20
On my Tiger I put an overflow bottle just in front of the header tank. =
It will keep the coolant with your Tiger and not splashing on your front =
tire.
=20
I also recommend that you flush and back flush the heater core. The =
last time I did that all kinds of sediment came out.
I need to do that again this year.

I=E2=80=99ve been troubleshooting what I thought was a hot-running =
motor. It=E2=80=99s mid-summer in the mid-Atlantic, and I have a =
triple-black Tiger, so not the ideal scenario to run cool. The =
car=E2=80=99s been running between 210 and 220 at 50 mph on level roads. =
It doesn=E2=80=99t get a lot of miles, so I thought the radiator might =
need a flush. I changed the thermostat (180deg) at the same time. =
Same temps. I pulled out an infrared thermometer and with the car =
idling, the temp gauge was indicating ~ 215 while the infrared =
thermometer was reading 183 when pointed at the water outlet and F4B =
manifold. I ordered a new temp sending unit from Rick =E2=80=93 any =
other suggestions? =20
