Russ
I believe I=E2=80=99ve been there and sometimes still =
happens.
The linkage is stuck in reverse gear position. If you put it back into =
reverse and carefully pull it out of reverse it should be OK. I found =
that worked after getting under the Tiger a couple times to get it in a =
forward gear which is no fun at all.
=20
I believe this problem is all in the shifter mechanism.
=20
I=E2=80=99m not exactly sure how I reduced this occurrence, it was 20 =
years ago, but here is a go at it.
I believe I took the shifter mechanism out =E2=80=93 cleaned it =
=E2=80=93 inspected it - lubed it and I stretched the spring a little.
I also replaced the trunnion on the shifter.
Assemble the shifter =E2=80=93 check and adjust the shifter linkage as =
required.
=20
That worked for me =E2=80=93 only once in a great while does the shifter =
hang up now.
=20
Hope this helps with your problem

After my recent engine rebuild I am having trouble with the tranny =
getting stuck in two gears. Not good. It occurs when trying to go =
forward after putting it in reverse It won't go into any forward gear. =
Did I perhaps bend something getting it back into the tunnel on =
replacing the motor? I didn't do anything to the tranny when out of =
the car. I did clean it up and repaint before re-entry. It was =
suggested that I cleaned it too good and it needed to be relubed on the =
rods and levers. That did seem to help but it still gets stuck on =
occasion and I can release it by putting it back into reverse. That is =
the good news. I had to get under the car and hit the lever before to =
pop it out of gear. The levers all line up where they should be under =
the shifter. Fluid level is good. Is the fluid correct( valvoline gear =
oil--high performance 80-90w )? Any suggestions would be appreciated. =
