Sean,

According to TBON (The Book of Norman), your "Body Number" or JAL (Jensen
ALpine) is 561016. It is mounted to the cowl with two screws and was
apparently attached to the body at Pressed Steel very early in the
manufacturing process as the primary identification means. Since there is
not a one-to-one correspondence between the JAL number and the ID tag,
B9471382 in your case, there arises a question as to which one to rely on to
determine the order of production. Hence, Tom Hall's question to Ron Frazer.
Ron's ID is B382000009, but his JAL is 660036, which would suggest his car
was the 36th Mk-1A produced. BTW, Rootes would sometimes spontaneously
reverted back to an earlier production style, for example the single versus
double stud window frames. Likewise, a vinyl cover on JAL 660036 is no real
guarantee that a later car couldn't have a steel cover.

Bob
