Remove the cable/gear from the trans is a piece
of cake. Put the car on a lift or jack stands. Crawl
underneath and locate the speedocable. Using an
appropriate number of 3/8 extensions through the
existing holes in the frame you can remove the bolt
that holds the cable assembly in the trans. Pull
and the cable with gear will slide out. Let it hang
down and you can have you way with it. A lot
quicker than pulling the carpet. I've down this
twice. Once to replace a stripped gear when the
speedo head froze. The second to put in a different
gear to adjust the speedo reading. Your local Ford
dealer carries a selection of gears at about $7 each.
You can almost adjust the speed so its dead accurate.
