My previous note on CAT Shop Notes indicated a 3/8 NPT (National
Pipe Thread) original to a Tiger required 5/8 UNF. These may still fit
your "same diameter" statement, as pipe thread sizes go with pipe ID not
Thread OD. For your grounding issue, I believe a brass washer, with a
male 1/4" spade soldered on while off the car, would be more reliable.
You could even braze or silver solder the spade for a more permanent
solution.
