OH!!!
Don't use AVGAS (100LL), for while it
does contain a good amount of lead,
aviation "mix" is very different from
automotive "mix"....AVGAS isn't designed
for "acceleration", variable rpm's, etc.
It's designed to burn at pressure altitudes
exceeding 18,000 feet as well, wherein
air pressure drops to half seal level
atmospheric, so AVGAS "volatility"
characteristics (burn rate) are totally
different from automotive gasolines.
The end result is that octane for octane,
it burns much more quickly, the end
result effectively "advancing" ignition
with associated increase in combustion
temperatures as compared to automotive
gasoline of same octane, or even 4-5
full points lower.
If we had the old "purple" stuff they used
in WW2 engines, that would be different
in terms of octane. That stuff was
"rocket fuel"....115 "auto-lean" and about
140 "auto-rich"!! :):)
