David...
Here is when an inquiry directed to Bill
Perry or David Anton would be in order.
Excellent question for which your's truly
has no answer 'cause I'm only the "driver"
but, I'm going to guess "no" when "new" and "yes" when "worn beyond
tolerances"
(as in rings, etc.).
Why the maker's designed it this way...?
Incidentally, it is the cooling/lubrication
effect of the oil which prevents undue
wear & tear on the "hotter running" exhaust valve over time, supposedly.
OTOH, Longman racing heads have
seals on both intake & exhaust valves
I am told. Of course, these are larger (racing) clearanced to begin with
and
are actually a "redesign" by another "maker".
I will ask my mechanic this morning...gotta drop by his place anyway,
today (large "light, no sugar" for "the man"!)
