We honeymooned on the Yucatan Peninsula (Cancun, Cozumel, etc.) in
'88. It was a great place to visit; we were treated well. I've been
told that the snorkeling and diving is great. Our interests lay
elsewhere on that trip.
The Yucatan has almost no water, so most is shipped in and is OK to
drink. The exception is Cancun, which does have a spring that
provides all the local tap water. I found this out the hard way. 25
lbs of weight loss (seriously sick) later, I can tell you that, yes,
you can get Montezuma's revenge from the ice cubes in your Coke at
the Cancun airport.
Almost LBC: At that time, and maybe still, the most popular rental
car was Mexican-made VW bugs, the original style. You'll feel right
at home behind the wheel.
