Guy and others:
Keep in mind that when you turn off your ignition, your plugs can no longer
supply a spark, so the timing can have nothing to do with run on. However, a
hot plug can be acting as a glow plug to continue to ignite the charge in the
cylinder, similar to what happens in a diesel engine. Lower octane fuels
will probably run on easier than higher octane, because they are more likely
to ignite at a lower temperature. That is why you use higher octane in high
compression engines, to keep them from pre igniting or pinging.
